Meeting room or conference room: what’s the difference?

What is the difference between meeting room and conference room, and which is best for your business needs?

What is the difference between meeting room and conference room?

If you’re searching for a suitable venue – external to your business – for your next meeting, team building or away day, training day or conference, you’ve probably already noticed that there are a large variety of venues and facilities available to you – including various meeting rooms and conference rooms in your local area. But what is the difference between meeting room and conference room?

A simple answer to this question is: the size.

Essentially, the main difference between a meeting room and a conference room is the sizes of these facilities – a conference room being much larger than a meeting room and therefore able to comfortably accommodate many more people at any one time.

An aside is also the typical uses of a meeting room and a conference room, where conference rooms tend to be used for larger meetings of multiple departments and/or conference (video) calls with multiple external professionals. Whereas a meeting room will tend to be used for smaller-scale in-person meetings. As such, conference rooms typically require more AV equipment and tech, including access to WiFi and a TV/projector.

What’s best for you?

When choosing between a meeting room and a conference room, it’s important to consider the following:

  • How many people will be required to attend?
  • What equipment, if any, you may need?

Asking these 2 simple questions will help you determine which type of space is best suited to your needs; a smaller, in-person meeting being best suited to a meeting room.

Hiring school facilities could be the answer

If you’re considering holding a conference or meeting outside of your business, either for your employees or between your employees and clients, hiring school facilities – such as a hall or classroom – could be the most affordable, flexible option; school lettings offering generously sized and well equipped spaces at reasonable prices.
