This is how best to decorate a hired venue

Decoration is by far one of the key elements of throwing a successful event; whether it be a birthday party, charity gala dinner or a business conference, the way a venue is decorated will always stick in people’s minds and, as such, you’ll want your venue to look great! However, a hired venue does, of course, come with some rules & restrictions to prevent any damage to the walls, floors, equipment and any related facilities and, as such, will need to be decorated in a certain way. So, let’s go through how to decorate a hired venue…

How to decorate a hired venue

Use tape or blue tack to secure materials to the wall: if you’re allowed to secure [lightweight and temporary] materials to the walls of the venue hired for the duration of your event, such as banners or colourful bunting, we recommend doing so using tape, blue tack or any other agent that will not damage or leave marks on the walls. When hiring a venue, it’s a good idea to go in with a ‘I’m leaving this exactly as I found it!’ attitude.

Use balloons and streamers: balloons and streamers are really effective decorations you can use to introduce colour and texture to your space without risking any damage to the venue itself, as they can be easily tied to chairs and/or tables and don’t require any ‘offensive’ fastenings.

Use backdrops: hiring in a backdrop or 2 will provide attendees with a focal point for fun pictures and – should you wish to introduce some fancy dress items or simple props – an enjoyable activity for people to take part in.

Use crafting/activity tables: introducing crafting tables or activity tables to your event will provide areas of special interest for attendees, things for people to do, and will get people engaging & interacting with each other. Table-top crafts and activities could, depending on your event, include cupcake decorating, painting or colouring or – for adult only events such as dinners and fundraisers – wine tasting.

Use table decorations: table decorations and centerpieces – flowers, fairylights, colourful or informational placemats, or festive themed ornaments can bring so much colour, texture and interest to your hired venue, as well as providing guests with something impressive to talk about.

In short, there are many ways to decorate a hired venue that are neither intrusive to the venue itself nor expensive, but can be incredibly effective in creating a fun or sophisticated atmosphere.
